Like most Vanagon owners I had wind noise coming from my wing window (the triangle window on the front door). I inspected the window seal and it looked like it was perfectly sealed against the window, yet I still got wind noise at speeds over 40 MPH. I thought perhaps the noise was coming from the door seals so I placed some weather stripping around the door jam, but I still got the wind noise. Click through to see how I solved it once and for all.
One day while I was at the park and the sun was hitting my van just right, I noticed a gap in the window seal. The gap was very small, but it was enough to create noise when traveling at higher speeds.
I used foam weather stripping from Home Depot and placed it on the bottom of the triangle window. It is very difficult to see in the picture so I have outlined it in red. If you look closely, you can see part of the foam.
At first, I thought it would be so thick that my window wouldn’t close, but low and behold, it completely stopped the wind noise. The best part is my window can open and close just fine. I can finally hear the passenger when we’re driving on the freeway.
Give it a try for yourself and let me know how it goes in the comments. Good luck!
