If you are bored with the stock carpet flooring you can add your own personal taste to your Vanagon. We have seen rubber flooring, bamboo flooring, vinyl, and more. This marble install comes from a 1984 Westy and it looks great. The flooring looks like actual marble (instead of ceramic tile) and adds a nice personal touch to the living area in this Vanagon. You might also notice this guy uses the table mount as a MagLite holder.

Blogger Chojin Chef has a 1984 Westy and has come up with a few good hack ideas. This hack enables him to open and close the rear hatch from the inside. He installed a handle and a knob on the inside of the rear hatch. The handle allows him to pull the door closed, while the knob allows him to release the latch and open the door. How many times have you been laying in the back of your van and wished you could open the rear hatch for some fresh air? Click through to see how he did it.

Curtains or drapes can make your Vanagon feel more like a home. After all, cars don’t have drapes but most homes do. The Vanagon is like a toy car in many respects. Many Vanagon owners do a lot of work themselves because it’s relatively easy to repair the Vanagon. Removing your dashboard however, is a very tricky task. It takes hours and hours even if you don’t know what you’re doing. Some guy named Ben has created a little “how to” section to his website, complete with step by step photos. If you plan to remove your dash, do yourself a favor and check out this website. You won’t regret it!

Check out this bamboo flooring install. Samba user Congaman found some tongue and groove bamboo flooring and decided to spice up his 1981 Vanagon. It sort of matches his cabinets, but not really. He says the job took 30 minutes.

We have seen several Vanagon food trucks around the world. From lunch wagons to mobile cafes, the Vanagon has been adapted to fit a variety of needs. This conversion is really extensive. The Volkswaffle is a first class Vanagon conversion that has a ton of equipment on board. I wish I knew who created this bad boy, but we will just have to admire it from the pictures.

The Vanagon has been used for all sorts of things, and the disabled have realized its value as much as anyone. Many people use Vanagons for transporting those with wheelchairs. There are several wheelchair lifts that can be installed in the Vanagon to help people get around. The photo above of Rebecca’s Vanagon. Someone from her church gave Rebecca the Vanagon to help get her around. She blogged about how grateful she is for the gift.

When you park the Vanagon during the summer months it can get hot quickly. A 12 volt oscillating fan can be helpful to move the air around. I like to clip mine on the rear view mirror, or the ash tray lid. The dash board seems to be a favorite location for a fan, but people have different ideas for the perfect fan placement. Where do you mount your fan?

This hack comes from Dan Reed and I love it! I can’t say it’s the easiest way to stay cool in the summer, but if you are camping for an extended period it might be worth it. As you can see, Dan placed an air conditioner in the window of his Westy. Click through to see how he did it.
