wing-window-wind-noise

Like most Vanagon owners I had wind noise coming from my wing window (the triangle window on the front door). I inspected the window seal and it looked like it was perfectly sealed against the window, yet I still got wind noise at speeds over 40 MPH. I thought perhaps the noise was coming from the door seals so I placed some weather stripping around the door jam, but I still got the wind noise. Click through to see how I solved it once and for all.

This double cab Doka truck looks incredibly well kept. It includes a rear camper top with a King sized bed for those camping trips. It doesn’t get much better than this!

I wonder what this thing is called? Vanabus or Busagon?

These custom door panels are laser cut to your specs. I ran across these on Etsy by a company called VanagonDwellers. They can make almost any pattern you send them and the panels will be ready to install with all clip holes. Not bad.

We added an additional fluorescent light to the passenger’s side of the Vanagon. We had to fish from the back light, but that wasn’t so bad. You can purchase these lights at GoWesty for about $55 and install it yourself. It adds a lot of light to the cab.

If you don’t look too closely you might swear this is another dropped Doka truck. Nope! This is a custom modified air-cooled VW van. The tires look huge on this thing because she’s dropped. All it needs now is the right paint job to make her really stand out.

I always try to use every bit of space in the Vanagon so I can keep the floor space clear. Not only do I keep lights under the jump seats for indirect lighting at night, I mounted a paper towel holder under one of the seats to maximize space. It works great! I have little plastic organizer boxes under the other jump seat so this one was just asking for something to be placed there.

stubby

What in the world is this? It looks like the Mystery Machine without the middle. Nice hack.

guage-setup

Vanagon owners love gauges. We have already seen several gauge placement ideas, but this gauge setup caught my eye. It comes from a 1982 Vanagon previously owned by Rick Gordon. The mount is big, but aimed up at just the right angle for viewing. I’m not sure it would fit a Vanagon with an automatic transmission due to the shifter, but I like the placement. You can find other gauge ideas here. You might also notice an organizer mounted on the dashboard.

bigred

If you have a spare $65,000 laying around you can buy this 1987 Vanagon GL Syncro Westfalia called Big Red. Her owners have completely restored her, but it’s time to let her go. It was recently posted on The Samba and she’s a beauty. Click through for more.
